Project Management GO FOR KOGEI 2023
OVERVIEW
The exhibition venues, which were previously scattered across the three Hokuriku prefectures, were consolidated to more clearly showcase the connection between the works and exhibition sites, consequently between artistry and its production region. The exhibition took place in Toyama, a “city of canals,” along the Fugan Canal. It encompassed three areas extending roughly five kilometers from downtown to the bay, which were accessible by boat. This year’s theme referred to Water and Dreams: An Essay on the Imagination of Matter by Gaston Bachelard (1884–1962), a French philosopher of science. Drawing on his concept of the “material imagination,” as well as “water,” works of 26 artists were presented. The International Symposium, Talking about Art and Kogei, supported by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc., invited renowned international researchers and curators to discuss contemporary craft and art trends, focusing on keywords such as history, locality, identity, and transnationalism. Noetica, serving as the Project Management Office since 2021, provided comprehensive management from planning and coordination to operation and public relations.
