OVERVIEW

The Kanazawa 21st Century Kogei Festival celebrates the enduring tradition of kogei in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, where traditional arts and crafts have continued to thrive since the Edo period. It was launched in 2016 by consolidating several preexisting kogei crafts events by different organizations—Shuzen Shokusai, Kogei Kairo, and Kanazawa Art Space Link—in addition to Kanazawa Mirai Chakai and Kanazawa Mirai Kogei-bu. This annual festival offers experiences that are unique to Kanazawa with an aim of making the city into a “port,” which is both an origin and destination of kogei crafts.
