OVERVIEW

This art project took place in the Kuroshima area (Monzenmachi, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture), which had developed as a residential area for the owners and crews of historical Kitamaebune merchant ships. The area also has deep ties to the Rinju system of the Sojiji Temple of Soto Zen Buddhism. Historically significant as a node for people, goods, and culture, it played a significant role in the spread of Soto Zen Buddhism through marine traffic. The Kuroshima Art Project presented an exhibition that fosters cultural exchanges, drawing inspiration from the deeply rooted customs in the area. Noetica was responsible for overall project planning and curation.
